VOLUNTEER NEWS

Please!!

The Florida East Coast Humane Society is currently accepting volunteer applications for two urgently needed positions. The Humane Society takes pets on the road nearly every weekend throughout the year to promote the society’s mission of saving pets and to showcase animals available for adoption. Offsite events include trips to local business and community events in the area.  Special Event Volunteers assist shelter staff with setting up for events, introducing pets to attendees, and talking to people about programs offered at the shelter. Many friendly, outgoing volunteers are needed for this important work and should expect to work one Saturday a month.

The Humane Society is also hiring volunteers as Thrift Shoppe Attendants. These volunteers work four hours a week helping stock items and assisting shoppers. The store is nearly always busy and lots of extra hands are needed.

For more information these positions, contact Volunteer Coordinator, Marc Bellefontaine at 829-2737, ext 20 or at marcb@fechs.org

How To Volunteer
Volunteer Application

At the Florida East Coast Humane Society, our most important resource is our volunteers. Without them, we could not do anything! We are in great need of new volunteers to help us carry on our important mission. If you love animals, especially dogs and/or cats; then our shelter is the perfect place for you to serve your community. Don't worry if you are inexperienced. We have orientations and on-the-job training! Anyone interested in volunteering must attend orientation prior to working at the shelter. The Orientation schedule will be posted on the Announcement Board in the shelter lobby. Please RSVP prior to orientation scheduling.

Our volunteers usually pick a regular shift that they can adhere to consistently. In order to volunteer, you must be at least 16 years of age and be able to commit to volunteering for at least 6 months. Minors between the ages of 12-15 can volunteer with a parent or adult guardian present. We have many parent-child teams that volunteer at the shelter, as it is a rewarding way to spend family time.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

1. Pick up a volunteer application from the shelter or fill one out on-line volunteer application.

2. Complete the application, mail or bring to the shelter. Please note that the application must be notarized (and

signed by parents for minors) before submission.

3. Contact Volunteer Coordinator, Marc Bellefontaine at 829-2737 ext 20; or email marcb@fechs.org to register

for an orientation class.

4. Arrange for a one-on-one meeting with Volunteer Coordinator.

5. Attend Volunteer Orientation Session (schedule is posted on Announcement Board in Lobby).

6. Sign Volunteer Agreement.

7. Schedule Initial Training session with Volunteer Coordinator within 1-2 weeks of orientation (this is often in a

small group setting).
